Flying High with New Mexico Flying 40

 

Blue Skies was among many of New Mexico's technology companies that were recognized at the New Mexico Flying 40 event that was held at the Albuquerque Botanic Gardens. The New Mexico Flying 40 recognizes the state's largest and fastest growing companies in the technology sector according to total revenue and percentage growth in revenues over time. Blue Skies was also included in the Flying 40 in 2016.

Blue Skies Attends the Vexcel Users Group Meeting

 

Blue Skies representatives attended the Vexcel Users Group Meeting that was held at the Denver Tech Center in Denver, Colorado. Topics such as new camera systems and the new functions of updated software were discussed.

Blue Skies Attends the International LiDAR Mapping Forum

 

Blue Skies representatives attended the International LiDAR Mapping Forum that was held at the Hyatt Regency Denver in Denver, Colorado. This three day forum was sponsored and supported by ASPRS, Informed Infrastructure, LiDAR Magazine, OGC, POB, and UAS Colorado. Topics such as industry advancement, benefits of LiDAR and LiDAR deliverables were discussed.

Congratulations, Ethan Lacher!

 

Blue Skies congratulates Ethan Lacher on becoming a UAS part 107 certified remote pilot. Ethan is the third member of the Blue Skies team to obtain a remote pilot certificate. Mike Racine and Michael Grossman also hold remote pilot certificates.

Blue Skies Welcomes Kirtland Air Force Base

 

Blue Skies attended an event held by Kirtland Air Force Base and the City of Belen to celebrate the a partnership that enhances aircrew training with a fly-in. Belen and 58th Special Operations Wing recently signed an agreement allowing C-130 training on the crosswind runway at Belen Alexander Municipal Airport.

Blue Skies Has Added LiDAR Capabilities

 

Blue Skies' new RIEGL VQ-580 LiDAR system adds to our ever expanding services. The V-Line Airborne Laser Scanner RIEGL VQ-580 provides high speed, non-contact data acquisition using a narrow near-infrared laser beam and a fast line scanning mechanism. High-accuracy laser ranging is based on RIEGL's unique echo digitalization and online waveform processing, which allows achieving superior measurement results even under adverse atmospheric conditions, and the evaluation of multiple target echoes. The LiDAR system is integrated along with our Vexcel UltraCam Lp digital camera in the same aircraft for simultaneous acquisition of laser and digital data. In a world of ever expanding technological capabilities, Blue Skies wants to ensure that we have the ability to provide exceptional services. We will have two commercially licensed remote drone pilots on staff. Our drone services will be available soon.

Blue Skies owners Tami Wiggins and Mike Racine attended Quantum Spatial's first Acquisition Symposium in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. At the symposium, more than 70 attendees learned about digital imaging technologies, cutting edge Geo-referencing and 3D modeling.

Farewell Cookout for Retiring Airport Manager, Robert Uecker

 

Friday, May 27 Blue Skies hosted a farewell cookout in honor of retiring airport manager, Robert Uecker. Robert has served the City of Belen as airport manager for 9 years. He has been a wonderful airport manager and a true friend to Blue Skies and he will be missed.

The Belen Alexander Municipal Airport was recognized as "Airport of the Year 2016" at the New Mexico Airport Managers Association conference that was held in Ruidoso early in May.

Blue Skies family expansion continues with two more new members

Blue Skies welcomes aboard Ethan Lacher and Lindsay Cole. Ethan is returning to Blue Skies after a summer internship in 2015. He will be filling the role of aerial systems operator. Lindsay will be acting as administrative assitant. She will provide support services to both the administration and image processing teams.

Blue Skies expands family with two new members

Blue Skies welcomes aboard Daniel Montoya and Angela Arriaga. They will be joining the team as photogrammetric scanning technicians. Daniel and Angela will be scanning and processing large-format aerial film into digital file format and processing direct-digital aerial imagery and airborne GPS data.

Blue Skies Attends the Crosswind Runway Ribbon Cutting

 

Blue Skies attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the crosswind runway. The new runway is situated northwest to southeast, and will give pilots an alternate way to land in Belen. It is large enough to attract bigger and heavier aircraft to the airport. It is 5,280 feet long and wider than the current runway.

Track'Air SteadyTrack LG Stabilization Mount upgrade

 

Blue Skies acquired a new Track'Air SteadyTrack LG sensor mount for our Cessna 206, N756JA. The mount excels at keeping the sensor level, and allows for a wide range of sensors to be mounted.

New Mexico National Geographic Bee

 

Blue skies provided drinks, snacks, and volunteers for the New Mexico National Geographic Bee held at the National Dance Institute in Albuquerque. Lakshay Sood is the 2015 New Mexico State Champion, and will be competing in the national championship preliminary rounds on Monday, May 11th, 2015 in Washington DC.

Blue Skies hosted a workshop for the New Mexico Geographic Information Council (NMGIC) fall meeting. Workshop participants were provided with lunch and a tour of the hangar. The NMGIC members were taken through our digital and film acquisition work flow from project planning to delivery.

Repairs, upgrades, system integration, and flight testing has been completed after a six month overhaul of Blue Skies third aircraft, a newly acquired Cessna T210 N model.

Blue Skies awarded call signs by the FAA

 

Blue Skies has been awarded the call sign MAPR (pronounced mapper) for communication with air traffic control facilities. Blue Skies aircraft will be known as MAPR 1, MAPR 2, and MAPR 3.

Blue Skies purchases new RC30 aerial film camera

 

Blue skies purchased the last new RC30 aerial film camera system from Leica Geosystems. According to Leica, our new RC30 aerial camera is one of the top five cameras in the United States for lens resolving power. During calibration, the USGS Optical Science Laboratory measured the cameras area-weighted average resolution at 117. Click here for the calibration report.
